Fashion is not something that exists in dresses only. Fashion is in the sky, in the street, fashion has to do with ideas, the way we live, what is happening.

Louis VuitIMG_2947ton Serie 3 is an exhibition full with emotion and the futuristic view created by Nicolas Ghesquiere, and most importantly the brand new Louis Vuitton universe.

The new Louis Vuitton concept is the combination of technology and craftsmanship. Nicolas made the iconic monogram case smaller and used laser tech into the Fall Winter 2015 collection of Louis Vuitton. With the giant high resolution screens and the recreation of the show, the energetic vibe filled the space and audience can look at several looks at the same time. Just like a recent vogue article said, maybe the future of runway will go 100% digital without compromising any effect.

This might be the symbol showing luxury houses are ready for the future.

We got LVMH. Charlotte and Francesca said. I couldn’t even hide the excitement that I yell out loud. LVMH is the company that I dream to work for and this is a great opportunity for me not only to complete a school project with passion but also to do a comprehensive research to better know the history, identity and the financial part of the fashion enterprise.

The whole process started with tons of research, which includes online resources, editorial contents, campaigns, major publications, and most importantly, store visit. Doing store visiting was actually a lot fun since it is the perfect chance to look closely to every aspects of the high end fashion boutiques, observe the people who go in to the store and talk to them. We focused on visiting the stores Bond Street, where is the center of luxury retailing in London. The stores of  brands owned by LVMH, such as Dior, Louis Vuitton, Fendi, Celine, had the most extraordinary interior design, garments and customer services, which out-stand their major competitors. A fun fact was that after talking with a sales manager at Christian Dior and changed our contact information, I was invited to their trunk show, which showcased their 2016 cruise collection.

Even though we originally thought that each of us was able to introduce one brand, unfortunately, during our first rehearsal, we realized that it would not be possible to go over everything in depth within 10 mins of presentation. Eventually, we cut it down to Louis Vuitton, Fendi, Loewe and Kenzo, 4 fashion houses which represent the Legacy, craftsmanship, heritage and forward thinking prospects of LVMH.

The working process was very efficient and everyone of us contributed a lot into this presentation. Basically, we met as many times as possible and discuss our opinions and research findings via Google drive and Whatsapp. Working in a team enables me to listen to others and be more open-minded towards different perspectives while polishing my speaking and communication skills at the same time.

Coordinating with people is not an easy task. It takes time and patience to learn how to express my thoughts without being too aggressive, and take in different opinions.

And the most important thing: rehearse, rehearse and rehearse.

2. The T Shirt Challenge

The T shirt design activity in ISHE seminar was quite an interesting project. I never consider myself as a design person but T shirt design challenge was simple enough in terms of my drawing skills.

When I was drawing the inspiration for the T shirt, an Acne Studios college project T shirt design came across my mind. A slogan T shirt is never that difficult for a person who can not draw at all. More importantly, a slogan T shirt is also a simple and direct way to show public their thoughts or opinions in general. I did some sketches in class while cleaned it up with photoshop and combined it with my logo. As it is shown below:After You Tee

After you: always referred to a polite formula suggesting someone goes in front of or take a turn before oneself. In big cities, where I grow up and live, people are always all tight up and trying to rush from one place to another, trying to meet another deadline or catch another meeting. This slogan T shirt that I designed was just a little reminder for people to take a break and be polite to each other.

I used brush stroke to give the t shirt a softer touch, hope to make it look more relaxing and casual. While I was doing this project, I found the creation library from WGSN was really helpful as they have thousands of different flats under different garment categories. I believe that it will probably be a very handy design database in the future for my creative projects.

1. London & LCF

I have never imagined what I would expect for my new departure. I have never been to UK before, letting alone picturing me studying in the heart of UK, London. There is no other city like London, a city known for its history, architecture, art, literature, and so much more. What I truly love about London is its vibe.

The first day at LCF was full of nervousness since I went to school straight from airport. The diversity of central London, where the LCF is located in, strikes me the first moment as I stepped out of the Holborn subway station. Trench coat, skinny jeans, flats and umbrellas are the essentials that I observed to complete the London look.Untitled-1

Fashion Buying and Merchandising not the first fashion program that I attend, but it is definitely something that I have been dreaming of for a long time. In my education experience, all my class sections are small, around 10 to 16 people in each class. To my surprise, my first lecture was with about over 50 Fashion Buying and Merchandising students. I always enjoy studying with a big group of people so that various perspectives and opinions can be heard. I never know the difference in responsibility in terms of being a buyer or a merchandiser. The first few courses focused on course outlines and principles, but most importantly, they made me understand about the roles and daily operations of buying and merchandising offices. Based on the time table and class schedule that LCF provides, it is not really difficult to predict that I am going to have a busy year and learn a lot of hands on skills such as photoshop and excel for working as a buyer and a merchandiser. Even though I am not really bad at math, I do look forward to seeing if I will truly understand the math for merchandising and retail.

I couldn’t wait to explore the city and those legendary department stores in London. Dover Street Market London, Liberty, Selfridges, and Harrods. As my new London friends in class told me these are the most renowned and worth-visiting department stores in town. I love each store and its own unique characteristics. Dover Street Market London definitely has the most diversity in styles. Though the retail space is quite limited, the merchandises on the sales floor reflected on the relationship between DSM and Comme des Garçons. The whole store is greatly influenced by Japanese culture and designers. Liberty, on libertythe other hand, with a taste of original London fashion. The architecture of the department store is truly stunning. The wooden structure and floors inside  gave the store a vintage touch.

Selfridges is the store that had the highest traffic flow when I visited. I was really surprised how many mega brands are located on the same floor. While I was browsing and window shopping, I saw a lot of Chinese customers and Korean. It seems like Selfridges is the go-to luxury shopping destination for most international consumers.

In my whole London department stores exploring trip, the store that attracted me most was Harrods, not only because of its history and legend, but more importantly because of its amazing window display. When I visited, the theme of the display was Celebrating 40 Years of Brioni at Harrods. It was full of
creativity, London signature styles and a lot of humor as well. Harrods did a great job at not just selling one product, or one brand, but one kind of lifestyle that everyone desires.

The glass window was quite reflective, which gave me a touch time getting the image that I want. However, I found the combination of the fast-spinning images and the reflection very interesting. The window attracked each one’s attention and then lost it.

harrodsWell, what can be even more fascinating than that? A gorgeous food hall on the main floor!
